Midterm Break Takes a Break

In the middle of the year, schools prepare their students for midterms. Many students dread this week of constant studying and two-hour tests. This year, the midterms are going to be split by a weekend. They start on Thursday, January 26, and end the following Tuesday. The students have more time to prepare because the tests are broken up by two days and because they start later in the week.
Students are given the opportunity to have more study time. Starting later in the week gives students more review time in class, and also at home. The week before midterms is usually hectic, with students trying to get everything together as well as finishing last minute work. The weekend in between allows students to take their time, and prepare the best way possible.
On the other hand, the days in between could also be negative. Students may not take the midterms as seriously or forget what they have to do the following Monday and Tuesday. It could affect how the students test on those days.
Our principal Mr. Calder said the true reason for the midterm break is because of how the days were counted. Although, he thinks the idea of breaking up the midterm is smart because it “relieves pressure, and gives students more time to study and prepare for their midterms.” Mr. Calder said he is thinking of keeping it this way, and will most likely continue it next year.
