Video Game Club

People could not believe their ears when they heard the news that our school was organizing a video game club. Students and teachers thought, “A video game club? How is that school related? Video games won’t help the students learn!” But Mr. Aymes, director and creator of the club, impressed me with what he had to say. It was exciting to hear what he had to say about what this group had to offer. Mr. Aymes said he got the idea for the club from Mr. Horowitz after he ran into some students at GameStop. He then became serious about the idea. When asked what would be done at the meetings, he was still thinking about that himself, he said they would host gaming tournaments among members with whatever games they decide to play. They also plan to brainstorm ideas how to help the community and charitable causes. Many people question the benefits of this club because video games aren’t ‘educational’, how will the club help students/school? He gave me an impressive answer: “There are positives; it’s a social activity. It’s better than doing nothing, or whatever you kids do after school, its meeting new people. He also added that he will hold tournaments where students pay a few dollars to participate, and the money will go to children’s’ hospitals or maybe Haiti. Then my final question: “What would you tell people who want to know more about this club?” “Come to the meetings!” was the last he had to say about the club. It seems like the club will be beneficial for the community after all.
