On January 8, 2010, star Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu came to Spotswood High School to do an interview for the school’s television station, Channel 3. Mohamed is a freshman at Rutgers and was one of the team’s leaders in receiving yards and touchdowns. Mohamed was also named the most valuable player in Rutgers’s Saint Petersburg Bowl win over the University of Central Florida.
Mohamed was a three-sport athlete at South Brunswick High School, but he chose to play football at the collegiate level for the Scarlet Knights. Other schools like Syracuse, Penn State, and the University of Connecticut offered scholarships to Mohamed, but he chose Rutgers. He said that Rutgers felt like home to him, and he also said that the campus wasn’t far so he could remain close to his home in South Brunswick.
Mohamed not only works hard on the field, he works hard in the classroom. He hasn’t decided on a major yet, but one of the majors he is considering is communications. When asked how hard it is to balance football with academics, he said it’s very hard, but with the help of his academic advisors, he can still leave some time for himself.
Mohamed is enjoying his time at Rutgers, and he said that one of his best memories so far was winning the Saint Petersburg Bowl. After watching his team defeat Central Florida, he believes the Scarlet Knights with the help of some highly talented recruits, will be contenders for the Big East and BCS crown next season. The Scribbler and Spotswood High School wish Mohamed and the rest of the team the best of luck next season. Rutgers, Rutgers, Go R. U. !
